Appropriations Update
This week, Congress came closer to concluding work on appropriations for fiscal year 2010. The House adopted a conference report of an omnibus package of six spending bills including language for Labor, Health and Human Services and Education that will provide the funding allocation for programs authorized through the TBI Act and for NIDRR’s TBI-related research programs, including TBI Model Systems of Care.
The House funding is as follows:
HRSA State Grants
FY 2010 Omnibus: $9,939,000
FY 2010 Request: $20,000,000
FY 2009 Actual: $9,877,000
CDC Injury Prevention & Control, Traumatic Brain Injury
FY 2010 Omnibus: $6,152,000
FY 2010 Request: $11,000,000
FY 2009 Actual: $6,137,000
NIDRR, Includes TBI Model Systems of Care
FY2010 Omnibus: $109,241,000
FY 2009 Actual: 107,741,000
*It is important to note that the conference report does state that the Traumatic Brain Injury Protection and Advocacy Services component should receive the same proportion of funding that it received in fiscal year 2009 as proposed by the House.
The Senate plans to consider the package this weekend and hopes to set a vote on the omnibus by December 14, 2009. BIAA will continue to monitor the situation closely.
