High School Footballers Wearing Special Helmets to Monitor Brain Injuries

As they root for the home team from the bleachers this fall, high school gridiron fans in the small Illinois town of Tolono won’t necessarily see anything out of the ordinary down on the field. But just out of sight, tucked inside many of the maroon helmets worn by the Unity High School Rockets, a revolution of sorts is taking place. Queensbury boxer died of multiple head injuries — new and previous

Rodeo aims to keep bikers safe

Use your head, and not to catch golf balls

THE CLUBHOUSE
• Never assume other players see you, even if you’re standing in their fairway. Wait until they hit or make sure they acknowledge your presence.
• Know where you are. If you’re on the right side of your fairway, chances are golfers coming up the adjacent hole will hit it in your direction.
• When you hear “fore,” don’t assume it’s not meant for you. Always protect yourself, even if it means backing away from the ball.

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Area youth are invited to bring their bicycles, roller blades, scooter or skateboard to the ninth annual “Ride Cool” Helmet Safety Event.

This event, sponsored by Hannibal Clinic Health Services, will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday on the campus of the Hannibal Clinic.

The St. Louis Sprockets Stunt Bike Team will perform, doing stunts and talking to kids about the importance of wearing helmets when riding.

NASCAR Legend Ernie Irvan Announces LAPS Walk 2006 Schedule

Pocono Raceway Added; More Locations Expected in Months to Come

MCLEAN, VA — (MARKET WIRE) — 04/21/2006 — On the heels of last August’s successful inaugural walkathon event at Michigan International Speedway (MIS), NASCAR racing legend Ernie Irvan and the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) have today announced the 2006 dates for Irvan’s LAPS Walk, and have added the Pocono Raceway in Pocono, PA as an additional location. The event, which allows participants to walk the racetrack alongside Irvan and other current and former NASCAR drivers to raise awareness and funding for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) prevention and treatment, will occur on Friday, July 21 at Pocono (after Cup qualifying,) and Wednesday, August 16 at MIS in Brooklyn, MI. Irvan and the BIAA are also working on additional track locations for LAPS Walk and are expected to announce them soon.
